Question Marks

I have never looked him in the eyes
But I can tell they are beautiful
Even from a distance

Sometimes he would look into the eyes of his girl
And I would see question marks
Like plastic bubbles and candy canes

Sometimes he would come out from nowhere
And sorrow would fill his eyes
He would look and wait
Perhaps for someone
While reluctant question marks stirred
Beneath those translucent
Almond screens

Then there are days when he smiles
And he smiles quite often
There are still question marks
But they are brightly shaded
Perhaps before a life-long quest
And spirited by the honors of youth
